Overview
This individual has decades of extensive and successful mediation and arbitration experience. Interest in the alternative dispute resolution process began when as young associate he was assigned an arbitration matter a week before the proceedings for a large international aerospace industry client. It was clear that had this been a trial, some important information would have been excluded by some technical rule of evidence, however since this was an arbitration, that factually critical evidence was heard. After three days of arbitration, the matter was over, the young associate prevailed and returned to the firm with great acclaim and a love for alternate dispute resolution.
This same then young attorney, has now served as an individual arbitrator, chair of arbitration panels and on panels hearing and deciding multi-million dollar matters, all leading to his receipt of the Commercial Arbitrator of the Year for an international dispute resolution provider, for his dedication and results.
As if Arbitration and a busy law practice were not enough, this ‘Arbitrator’ began exploring the field of mediation and determined that this adjunct was of great value to the field of alternative dispute resolution. Keeping in mind the goal of resolving disputes in a timely manner and in a way that would potentially allow parties in many instances to continue personal and professional relations was of significant importance to this professional who recognized that there is no clear cut winner or loser in mediation, and that compromise was the key. With that in mind, this ‘Arbitrator’ developed along with the then regional director of an international dispute resolution provider their first ever west coast mediation program which now successfully continues.
While initially handling all mediations regardless of size that came into this provider, to help build the program, as mediation developed and its reputation grew, he successfully mediated one of the largest municipality vs municipal entity matters that the international mediation provider had ever received on the west coast. This potentially multi-million dollar or greater mediation took place between a major City and its Transit Authority and while each side initially informed the mediator that this case was not able to be settled because of its complexity and the rancor between the parties, three weeks later, the parties agreed to and executed a mediation settlement
